Our Story: Resilience, Faith, and Community Through Modest Fashion and Henna Art

What started as a humble side hustle has blossomed into a journey of purpose and passion. Apparels F M began with a simple act: sewing prayer covers to earn a little extra income after graduating. I never imagined that this small endeavor would resonate so deeply with people seeking affordable modest fashion. The combination of affordable prices and exceptional quality struck a chord, and soon, the requests came flooding in—hijabs, abayas, modest clothing, and accessories.

At first, I hesitated. My dream was to build a career in analytics. But as life often does, it had a different plan for me.

When the Covid pandemic hit, it brought challenges I never anticipated. I was laid off from my job and found myself navigating a relentless struggle to find work. My journey led me to retail—a chapter marked by daily encounters with racial and gender-based discrimination from colleagues, both Muslim and non-Muslim. Each setback chipped away at the dream of returning to corporate life. It became clear that the corporate and retail worlds weren’t meant for me.

In those moments of exhaustion and self-doubt, I remembered an interview I had conducted with my maternal grandfather (who ran a very successful clothing business for 35+ years) for a business management assignment. He spoke about how running your own business is an empowering act—one that demands dedication but brings immense fulfillment. I still vividly recall his words: "I can see it in you. You have what it takes to build something from scratch. When you're tired, don’t give up on your dreams. Take the leap of faith and start a business that will benefit you the best." Those words stayed with me and gave me the courage to pour my heart into building Apparels F M, a modest fashion brand rooted in quality craftsmanship, affordability, and inclusivity for the Muslim community.

We started Apparels F M with a clear vision: to bring affordability to every wardrobe. Our products are not just premium but also budget-friendly, making modest fashion accessible to all. Coming from a middle-class background, we deeply understand the importance of balancing quality with cost, and this principle is at the core of our brand. Every stitch, every design, and every product reflects the values we hold dear—faith, resilience, and the desire to empower others.

The Birth of The Henna Sisters

While Apparels F M grew, another creative passion of mine found its wings. I had always loved creating intricate henna designs for friends and family. What started as a personal joy soon became something bigger when my sister joined me in this artistic pursuit. Together, we founded The Henna Sisters.

When we moved to Whitby, we realized there was a gap—Muslim henna artists were hard to find in the area. That’s when everything clicked. Today, The Henna Sisters proudly serves our community, offering professional henna services and artistry that’s as meaningful as it is beautiful. Each design we create is a celebration of tradition, culture, and the bonds that unite us.
